California Driver Education Online Driving School Process

If you are ages 15 ½ to 17 ½, you will need to provide proof that you:

* Fully taken and passed a Califronia Driver Education course either online or in a classrom (Form DL 387 or OL 237) and are enrolled in an online driving school and are taking driver training (DL 392 or OL 392) in order to obtain your California Learner's Permit.

NOTE: Certificates come from DMV LICENSED drivers ed course providers that have had their course reveiwed by the DMV for your students safety. Certificates that come from online driver education providers that are not offering these forms have NO requirement to have their online driver education course REVEIWED by the DMV OR Department of Education. California is currently working to correct this.

OR

* You can also have already completed both driver education and drivers training.

OR

* You have the option to enroll and participate in an approved integrated California driver education/driver's training program (DL 400).

To apply for a provisional instructional permit,:

* Be at least 15 ½, but under 18 years of age and have completed California driver education. You may obtain the Certificate of Completion from a California Online Drivers Ed Course within 2 weeks of signing up.
* Complete the a form DL 44. This is simply an application form with all of you basic information.
* Have your parents’ or guardians’ sign the application. This is required for all applicants under 18 years of age.
* Have your thumb print taken and your picture taken.
* You will need to provide your social security number.
* You will need to have your date of birth verified.
* Submit the proper completeion form(s) for California Driver Education and/or Drivers Training Classes.
* Pass a vision exam
* Pass a traffic laws and sign test. You will have 3 chances to pass the written test. If you were to fail, you will need to wait an additional 7 days before taking it once again.

Note: Driver Education is the classroom training while Drivers Training is in the car after you have a permit.

Once you have held you permit for 6 months you may take the driving test to recieve your provisional Drivers license.

Provisional Driving Restrictions—You must be accompanied and supervised by a licensed parent, guardian or other licensed driver 25 years of age or older or a licensed or certified driving instructor when you:

* Transport passengers under 20 years of age at any time, for the first twelve months.
* Drive between 11 pm and 5 am for the first twelve months.

Persons under 18 may not be employed to drive a motor vehicle. When you turn 18 years of age, the provisional part of your license ends. You may continue to drive as an adult using your photo license, which will expire on your 5th birthday after the date you applied.

There are some Exceptions to the Restrictions in a provision license.

When reasonable transportation is not available and it is necessary for you to drive, the law grants the following exceptions for minors to drive between 11 pm and 5 am or to transport an immediate family member unaccompanied and unsupervised.

A signed note must be kept in your possession explaining the necessity and the date when the driving necessity will end.

Schooling or school-authorized activity. The note must be signed by your school principal, dean, or his/her designee.

Employment necessity and the need to operate a vehicle as part of your employment when signed by your employer verifying employment.

The best part of the whole process is the student and parent will sit in the comfort of their own computer environment. They will be able to learn at their own pace. They will have complete flexibility with their time. And most importantly, they will use a technique of learning that has been proven to be superior to conventional classroom training.
